Easter Weekend - Camping at Nsobe

Easter weekend was spent at a place called Nsobe (45 minutes from home). Sue got a head start and setup camp on Wednesday -- we joined her on Thursday for 3 nights! The weather was FABulous -- full MOON and gorgeous sunny days!!
Kristi taking in the sun! Swimming, hiking, and even a game ride were at hand.
We visited the piggery & the fish farm. We were astonished at the amount of pigs on the farm. Did you know they have 1 Bore to 15 Sows? poor lad! And 2 weeks after delivery, the sows are put back to be 'serviced' again, as they call it. After 7 litters, they are usually placed to slaughter. The litters can be as big as 16 l'l piggies. The sows can be as large as 180kg!

Fiona & Mark manage Nsobe and we enjoyed a private tour to discuss future plans with Mark & his 2 little ones on Sunday before we left for home...

Winding roads

Does the road wind up hill all the way?
Yes, to the very end.
Will the day’s journey take the whole long day?
From morn to night, my friend.

AIDS

AIDS is so limited.
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot erode faith.
It cannot take away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship. It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot invade the soul.
It cannot quench the spirit.
Our greatest enemy is not disease,
But despair.

My humble abode

"A little piece of heaven in Africa"
Ipusukilo Shalom
(which means a place of refuge, salvation & peace)
Accomodates 26 guests
Conference Hall holds 200 ppl.

Ipusikilo is a place that I consider 'home' during my stay at Lifespring Farm. The family has been so generous in considering my safety, my comfort and given me a lovely room that I can call my own. I’ve decorated my room with some african memories and adorned my walls with photos of home!
Some of you have inquired about where I stay while I'm here on the farm, so here you go – photos to share my humble abode with you!
Now hurry up and come visit…

Welcome back Kristi!!

Kristi Lockyer is a Canadian friend from St. Catharines who has taken a 6 month leave of absence from teaching to join Isubilo and setup their new OVC Centre. I referred her only two years ago and she has already visited 3 times (same amount as Hannah & myself but over a 4 1/2 year period!).

Kristi will be housesitting for the Buzzards during their 4 month return to UK (Baby #1 on the way!!). It has been suggested that I move in and work with the Isubilo team once again for the last 5 weeks of my stay. I am considering this option as you know Unilever reconfigurations were my forte and the challenge is so tempting!

I remember my first trip back in 2003 where it was quite obvious that sport/athletics are a big part of the orphans lives... this centre will bring so much to these children and I want to help Kristi and the team make this happen!!

The Day I Was Born

I am very thankful to be in Africa on my birthday.
