The road trip took 9 hours and I traveled with Nurse Sue (who lives at the farm) along with Eira Patching (nee Suckling) whose is a fourth generation Zambian (musungu/white) and whose father truly built up this lovely place to what it is today.
The whole area is easy to get around by foot with a bible school, church, trades school/shops, and a very busy clinic. Ruth Wallace is the nurse who runs the clinic and basically works 6:00a.m. - 6:00p.m. every day. People arrive from as far as the congo and have walked over 4 days to see her. The day that I helped at the clinic, in 1 hour between 3-4p.m. there were 8 admissions - 2 malaria patients, 1 TB, and a man diagnosed with leprocy. I helped weigh a small girl named Rosa, who being mal-nourished ballooned out with water retention & skin sores from kidney failure (see photo below).
It's a miracle that Ruth gets through every day along with approx. 12 staff members to run the clinic, lab, 4 hospital wards and many other duties.6 Steps to make Corn cakes
